Cool Mattresses – Sleeping Cooler this Summer

Summer is upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited. After a long hard winter, we are all ready for some long summer days in the garden. However, with long summer days come the long summer nights! Thats why looking for Cool mattresses may be the answer to coping with the hot weather. Sleeping in a warmer climate can prove to be extremely difficult. The Sleep Charity reports that “Your body heat peaks late afternoon and then starts to drop in the evening to prepare your body for sleep, kickstarting melatonin production. An ideal bedroom temperature is around 16-18°C (60-65°F).”

One of the most common questions we are asked (at all times of the year) is what mattresses will provide a cooler sleeping environment. The coolest mattresses that you can buy are natural mattresses. Natural mattresses are the most suitable choice. Fillings like wool and cotton are inherently absorbent. They work well to wick away moisture, and regulate temperature without storing heat. Natural mattresses work vastly different to foam mattresses. Synthetics as a rule are much better at storing heat, and whilst that sounds like a pro – if you are looking for cool mattresses, it really isn’t.

However, if you prefer the feel of foam mattresses, some are better than others, particularly, our Mammoth Mattress range. Check out our Science of Sleeping page for more information on this. But as a general rule of thumb, if you would like to avoid a warmer night’s sleep stay away from Memory foam. You can shop our online range of Velocity mattresses here. Alternatively, pop in to store to view our full range of natural mattresses.
